At Mississippi Mud Coffee, we proudly offer compostable coffee pods. Our pods give you a great-tasting cup of coffee and help reduce waste. Here’s how to properly dispose of them after use.
Industrial Composting
Our pods break down in industrial composting facilities. These facilities provide ideal conditions for the plant-based materials in the pods to decompose completely. To locate a facility near you, visit findacomposter.com.
Home Composting
Although our pods are certified for industrial composting, you can still compost them at home. Currently all products certified compostable in the U.S. will say something about “Industrial Compost Facilities” because there are no Home Compostable Certifications in the States. But that doesn’t mean you won’t be able to compost it at home.
Home composting systems typically take longer for more durable materials like ours to break down. But with the right balance of “greens” (food waste) and “browns” (yard debris), moisture, and heat, the pods can successfully decompose in a home compost setup.
What’s the Difference Between Biodegradable and Compostable?
Biodegradable products break down naturally over time into smaller components but may leave residues that are not entirely eco-friendly. In contrast, compostable items, like our coffee pods, not only break down into organic matter but also do so within a specific time frame and without leaving toxic residues. This makes compostable products more environmentally beneficial than simply biodegradable ones.
What if You Can’t Compost?
If industrial or home composting isn’t accessible, you can look for local composting services. Many communities have small businesses that offer organic waste pickup or drop-off services, ensuring that your compostable coffee pods don’t end up in a landfill.
Why Compost?
Composting enriches soil, reduces waste in landfills, and promotes sustainability. By choosing compostable coffee pods, you’re contributing to a cleaner planet while enjoying your favorite Mississippi Mud Coffee.
